Ocean Life Snow Cones

My first Post!!! And I am very exited to begin sharing all my ideas with you! Summer is my favorite season and I love anything that has to do with the beach, pools, out door activities, the food, cocktails, and cold treats. For my first post, I wanted to do something with my ten year old, where he would have the opportunity to be part of the beginning of my blogging adventure. We love colors and anything that gives us the chance to chose from different flavors and ideas. We decided to make snow cones based on sea creatures and it was SO MUCH FUN!! We laughed a lot and enjoyed tryingdifferent flavors before we chose our favorite ones.

My family has the luxury to have a pool and we particularly enjoy spending hours in the sun. Every time we have the opportunity, we spend the entire day in our backyard and that is the reason why we are always coming up with different ideas for foodies and treats to enjoy outside. Of course Pinterest is a lot of help. For this particular treat, Pinterest has tons of recipes on how to make your own snow cone syrup. Of course you can always buy them ready at the store, but I wanted to chose my own flavors to go with our ocean theme and the snow cones we wanted to create based on sea creatures. I made my snow cone syrup with KoolAid, sugar, and water. Yup! Super simple! I used two cups of water, 2 cups of sugar, and three little packets of KoolAid. Of course you can add more sugar if the KoolAid flavor is too sour for you. Two cups of sugar for each two cups or water and three packs of KoolAid was just right for us. The flavors I used were grape, orange, strawberry, and blueberry. These were the flavors that went perfect for our theme.

I bought little sauce dispensers for each flavor to make pouring easy. Making them was easy and quick.

To make my "shaved ice" I wanted to keep things simple as well. I don't have a snow cone machine. Yeah, I know... loving summer as much, I should've already bought me one!! But hey, I have a blender and crushing ice takes seconds! I didn't have to spend on a machine. :) this means you can do this set up without out spending tons on it. I crushed my ice on the blender and placed it inside a tin can, which keeps ice from melting faster. If you have a plastic container it should work as well. I do advice you to blend your ice and keep it in the freezer until you are ready to make the snow cones.

My set up is super simple. I have a little umbrella in one of the corners of the pool and decided to place a little table next to it for that summer feeling. I made a colorful banner with my cricut machine (which I am very obsessed with by the way) a white table cloth, some of our pool toys and what I needed for our snow cones.

And now, our Sea Creatures themed snow cones flavors!!

I bought a chalkboard scrapbook paper from Hobby Lobby and cut it in four parts for the flavors. Again, keeping it simple and affordable.

These were my son's ideas and I loved them! They are fun, creative and super yummy! And of course, the ocean theme continues to give us that summer feel we love!

The Kraken

-Blue Berry
-Grape
-Kraken gummy

The Mermaid

-Strawberry
-Grape
-Pink and purple nerds candy

SHARK!

-Blueberry
-Strawberry
-Shark gummy

Last but not least...

Jelly Fish

For the jellyfish my son considered it would be a great idea to have a "create your own" flavor. Jellyfishes come in all kinds of colors, so I thought this was just perfect! We thought the crawler gummies could look like jellyfish tentacles ;)

My son and I had tons of fun trying all the flavors and coming up with the combinations. This activity gave him the idea to have an Ocean Theme Birthday Party, and how perfect would these snow cones combinations be?!! I love the idea of combining flavors, colors and toppings for snow cones because there are endless possibilities! You can make them for any themed party, like super heroes,  matching each of their colors. How about Dinosaur Land?! or Even Princesses! They are simple, not expensive at all, colorful, easy for kids to make their own and super yummy! I hope you enjoyed my first post! Stay tuned for many more ideas to come!!
